The tournament is now concluded. I competed against 63 other golfers in the 2024 $500,000 HSBC India Legends Championship, part of the Legends Tour and co-sanctioned by the PGTI. I managed to outplay 60 of my competitors, which is quite commendable, especially given the difficulty of the Greg Norman-designed Jaypee Greens, Greater Noida Golf Course and the humid conditions we endured. Kudos to Joakim Haeggman from Sweden, our champion, who showcased outstanding golf throughout the week. I had the privilege of playing alongside him in the final round—he concluded at nine under par, earning his two-shot win justly. I scored a 76, bringing my total to 212 over 54 holes, placing me tied for third at four under par. My performance was varied, and I was holding steady until the final hole, where I unfortunately scored a triple bogey seven. My putting was off all day, affecting my overall game. In total, I had 12 birdies over the three days.

I spent a delightful week at Jaypee Greens with my family, including my wife and son, and my golfing family, engaging with everyone and overseeing most of the event's activities. It was an immensely enjoyable experience, marking my first time as a Tournament Host for such a large event. I have no regrets—I was content with my performance, having been tied for the lead after 37 holes, which is never a negative. I need to focus on the many positives. My feelings at the end of the week are of exhaustion—the finish line was today. I didn't fully grasp the mental and physical toll until my duties were done. I extend my gratitude to all my fellow professionals for their unwavering support. They have been exceptional, embodying the spirit of the Legends Tour and senior golf. They responded positively whenever I sought their assistance.

The regular tours are now highly competitive, focusing on birdies and featuring the best players, often supported by internal teams including golf coaches, putting gurus, and health and wellness coaches, in addition to their management. I'm glad I played in my era, which seemed more enjoyable. I don't see many unique personalities these days, or rather, players aren't encouraged to be distinctive. Thanks again to the Legends Tour team. I hope this pioneering event in India will impact golf here positively. With enhanced support from the PGTI, HSBC, and corporate India, I'm optimistic we can return next year with an even bigger and better tournament. The Fashion Show on Saturday night, hosted by Athletic Drive, the apparel sponsors of the Legends Tour, was a notable event with a good turnout.

I'm now heading to Japan to compete in the Japan Senior Tour before returning to the Legends Tour in Germany for the Winstongolf Senior Open in late September. The Legends Tour will move to France next week, and I wish all my fellow pros safe travels and the best for another successful week. Thanks to everyone, including Khaleej Times, for providing this Daily Diary platform to share my experiences this week and for all your support. See you soon!
