The second-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has made its debut for the 2025 model year. Initially introduced as a four-door counterpart to the standard 2 Series, the Gran Coupe is built on BMW's front-wheel-drive platform. The updated sedan features a refreshed exterior, an upgraded interior equipped with the latest technology, and powertrains that deliver increased horsepower.
A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine powers the 2025 2 Series Gran Coupe, now with revised combustion geometry, a dual injection system, and other enhancements. This engine generates 241 horsepower in the 228 sDrive and xDrive models, and 312 hp in the M235 xDrive, both offering 295 pound-feet of torque.
BMW has replaced the previous eight-speed automatic transmission with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. When equipped with the M Sport Package, the car gains an M Sport Boost function, which optimizes settings for maximum acceleration. This feature is activated by holding the left-hand paddle shifter for one second.
The 228 xDrive accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.8 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than its predecessor. The M235 xDrive takes 4.7 seconds to achieve the same feat, which is 0.1 seconds slower than the 2024 model. Despite the M235's increased horsepower, its torque output has decreased from 332 lb-ft in the 2024 model.
The 2025 Gran Coupe is larger than the outgoing model, with a 0.7-inch increase in length and a 1.0-inch increase in height. The width and wheelbase remain unchanged. M Sport styling is standard across the range, featuring large intakes beneath the kidney grille.
The Hofmeister kink is highlighted by an embossed number 2, and the rear is framed by squinty LED taillights. Standard 18-inch alloy wheels are available, with optional 18- and 19-inch designs wrapped in all-season, summer, or performance tires.
BMW's M Adaptive Suspension is standard, but customers can opt for a traditional suspension setup at no additional cost. The car's suspension has been tweaked, with a 20 percent increase in caster offset to enhance handling and comfort.
Inside, the Gran Coupe is equipped with BMW's Curved Display running BMW OS 9. It also features a new gear selector, a wireless charger, and a standard 12-speaker Harmon/Kardon sound system. Perforated Veganza leather-free upholstery and newly designed heated sport seats are standard, with massaging front seats available for the first time.
Production of the second-generation 2 Series Gran Coupe will commence later this year at BMW's Leipzig, Germany, factory. It will go on sale in the U.S. next March, with the 228 xDrive and M235 xDrive leading the way. The 228 sDrive will follow later in the year.
All three trims see a $1,380 price increase compared to last year, with the entry-level model starting at $40,775 (including a $1,175 destination charge, up from $995 in 2024). The range-topping M235 xDrive starts at $50,675.
