The Toyota GR Corolla, which has been available for two years exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, will introduce an eight-speed automatic option for the 2025 model year. This new addition comes with several performance enhancements, such as increased torque and improved cooling systems. The new Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission features launch control and paddle shifters, and its software is distinct from that used in the GR Supra and GR86. Unlike those models, which shift gears based on vehicle behavior, the Corolla's transmission uses brake and accelerator pedal inputs to determine the best time for gear changes.

The GR Corolla offers four drive modes—Normal, Sport, Eco, and Custom—with the automatic transmission specifically tuned for Sport mode to match the performance of the six-speed manual. It also includes a standard transmission cooler for track use. Additionally, Toyota has modified the car's turbocharged 1.6-liter G16E-GTS three-cylinder engine, boosting torque from 273 to 295 pound-feet while maintaining 300 horsepower. The car now comes standard with front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials on its all-wheel-drive system.

Toyota has also refined the hatchback's suspension by adding rebound springs and upgrading rear coils and stabilizers to enhance handling. The redesigned front bumper includes improved brake ducts and a new air curtain design to reduce turbulence and increase stability. The 2025 GR Corolla will be available in Core, Premium, and Premium Plus trims, with the latter featuring a carbon-fiber roof and a head-up display, among other enhancements. All models will come with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, along with a complimentary one-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association.

The 2025 GR Corolla is set to hit dealerships this winter, with pricing and further details expected to be announced later this year. The 2024 GR Corolla starts at $37,635 for the Core trim and reaches $46,275 for the Circuit Edition.
