A fresh Mercedes-Maybach has arrived, but it's neither an extra-long limousine nor a colossal SUV. The 2026 SL 680 Monogram Series brings flair to Mercedes' roadster lineup, featuring enhancements geared towards comfort and a few opulent design tweaks.
The most noticeable updates are external. The Maybach SL offers two distinct "design concepts": Red Ambience or White Ambience. Regardless of the choice, the front boasts a Maybach-exclusive illuminated grille and a prominent Mercedes tri-star emblem on the hood. The headlights are adorned with rose gold accents, the windshield frame is chrome-finished, and buyers can select between five-hole Monoblock or multi-spoke 21-inch wheels.
Further exterior modifications include a black soft top patterned with subtle anthracite Maybach logos. This pattern can also be optionally applied to the hood, which is hand-sanded prior to the design being printed on the metal. Additional changes consist of Maybach-specific taillights, a chrome-trimmed rear fascia, and a new diffuser with Maybach-specific exhaust outlets.
Inside, the cabin is lavishly equipped with Crystal White Nappa leather covering the door panels, center console, and seats. The area behind the seats, typically reserved for a rear bench, is also swathed in Nappa leather; it's unclear if rear seats can be added to the Maybach SL. Interior updates also feature a unique steering wheel, stainless steel pedals, and stainless steel door sills.
Mechanically, the Maybach SL is similar to the AMG SL63. It houses a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine producing 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, driving all four wheels. Standard features include rear-axle steering and the company's prevalent nine-speed automatic transmission. The modifications aim for enhanced comfort, with additional sound insulation, a quieter exhaust system, a retuned softer suspension, and softer engine mounts. Mercedes reports a 0-60 time of 4.0 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 160 miles per hour, slightly slower than the AMG SL63.
Pricing for the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series remains undisclosed, but deliveries are expected to commence in the latter half of 2025.
