A fresh Mercedes-Maybach has arrived, but it's neither an extra-long limousine nor a colossal SUV. The 2026 SL 680 Monogram Series enhances the Mercedes roadster with comfort-oriented mechanical enhancements and a touch of opulent design tweaks.
The most noticeable alterations are exterior. Offered in two distinct 'design concepts,' prospective owners can select between Red Ambience or White Ambience for the Maybach SL's color palette. Regardless of the choice, the front features a Maybach-exclusive illuminated grille and a prominent Mercedes tri-star emblem on the hood. The headlights boast rose gold highlights, a chrome-finished windshield frame, and a selection of either five-hole Monoblock or multi-spoke 21-inch wheels.
The modifications extend further. The black soft top is adorned with a discreet anthracite Maybach logo pattern. Optionally, this pattern can be applied to the hood, which is hand-sanded prior to the design being printed onto the metal. Additional updates include Maybach-specific taillights, a chrome-trimmed rear fascia, and a new diffuser with Maybach-exclusive exhaust tips.
Inside, the cabin is lavishly equipped with Crystal White Nappa leather covering the door panels, center console, and seats. The area behind the seats, typically reserved for a rear bench, is also swathed in Nappa leather; it's unclear if rear seats can be added to the Maybach SL. Interior enhancements also feature a unique steering wheel, stainless steel pedals, and stainless steel door sills.
Mechanically, the Maybach SL remains largely similar to the AMG SL63. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine produces the same 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, driving all four wheels. Rear-axle steering and the company's widely adopted nine-speed automatic transmission are standard. All modifications aim for enhanced comfort, including increased sound insulation, a quieter exhaust system, a retuned softer suspension, and softer engine mounts. Mercedes claims a 0-60 time of 4.0 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 160 miles per hour, slightly slower than the AMG SL63.
Pricing for the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series has not been disclosed, but deliveries are expected to commence in the latter half of 2025.
