Twenty-two individuals lost their lives when a two-story school building in central Nigeria's Plateau state collapsed, according to Sky News. A total of 154 people were initially trapped beneath the rubble, but all except the deceased have been rescued and are receiving treatment in various hospitals, as stated by a police spokesperson to Sky News. The Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency (Nema) reported on Facebook that 30 people remain hospitalized, and rescue operations have concluded with the site now cleared. The building, part of Saint Academy in the Busa Buji community of Jos north district, collapsed during school hours at approximately 0730 GMT. Such incidents are common in Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation, often due to inadequate safety regulations and substandard construction materials.
