A government medic reported on Tuesday that at least 27 individuals were killed in a crush at a Hindu religious event in northern India.
"We have so far received 27 bodies... more bodies are still arriving," stated Ram Mohan Tiwari, the senior medical officer of Uttar Pradesh state. Umesh Kumar Tripathi, the chief medical officer of Etah, confirmed that the deceased included 25 women and two men, with numerous injured being treated at local hospitals.
The primary cause of the tragedy, according to Indian newspapers, was a stampede during the religious gathering.
