Blood splatters across a TV showing the Teletubbies. Emaciated Rage Virus carriers wreak havoc in rural England. A chilling, clipped British voice delivers apocalyptic messages over the radio. Yes, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are back! After months of teasing details and casting announcements, our first real glimpse of the duo's 28 Days Later sequel trilogy starter, 28 Years Later, has finally arrived in the form of a pulse-pounding, blood-spurting trailer starring Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Jodie Comer. See how humanity is holding up 10,228 days after the zombie(-adjacent) apocalypse below: Did it just get colder in here?

Aside from a mother instructing her children to stay quiet as helicopters hover overhead during the Rage outbreak, this first teaser for 28 Years Later—shot entirely on an iPhone 15 Pro Max, believe it or not—is a dialogue-free, atmosphere-heavy affair. But what an atmosphere! Reminding us that Boyle and Garland pioneered this devastating, post-apocalyptic, rewilded horror-thriller long before The Last Of Us introduced its first cordyceps carrier, the writer-director duo haven't lost their edge nearly three decades later. Here, we see Taylor-Johnson and a young boy navigating rural England, bow-and-arrow in hand, as infected surge over the horizon, searching for... something—or someone, if Ralph Fiennes' recent plot details are to be believed.

During their journey, we catch glimpses of a grimy Fiennes marching toward a skull-filled pyre (perhaps heading to a Bone Temple), Jodie Comer holding (presumably) her child, and... could that be Cillian Murphy's bike courier Jim in a decidedly less-than-human state? Here's the first official synopsis for the movie: "Almost three decades have passed since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory. Now, under a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to survive among the infected. One such group of survivors resides on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group ventures into the mainland on a mission, he uncovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well."

And here are a couple of striking new posters for the film: Packed with religious symbolism, gritty early '00s zombie carnage, and a stellar cast of British acting heavyweights (Jack O'Connell and Erin Kellyman are notably absent here, but they're on their way), 22 years after 28 Days Later, we couldn't be more excited to discover what happens 28 Years Later when Boyle and Garland's new trilogy starter hits theaters on June 20, 2025.
