Launching 2K games from your Steam library just got a whole lot easier. The publisher has officially removed its launcher from all games that previously required it on Steam (and the Epic Games Store). This change took effect on November 18, with a follow-up update on November 25 to ensure the Launcher was completely removed. Many games, such as Bioshock Remastered, Marvel's Midnight Suns, and The Quarry, will now launch directly through Steam.

For games that used the launcher for additional features, a small submenu will now appear before the game opens. For instance, XCOM 2 and XCOM: Chimera Squad utilized the 2K launcher for mod management. Now, launching these games will open a menu allowing you to access the mod launcher or start the game directly. This update also enables mod installation and usage on Steam Deck, though the Chimera Squad menu may exhibit some graphical and interface issues on the portable device.

While some launcher files may still be present, the 2K launcher folder has been replaced with a text file named 2kLauncherRemoved.txt, which can be safely deleted. Additional files can be located using the Windows search bar with the following text: "%localappdata%T2GP Launcher" and "%appdata%T2GP Launcher." For a more detailed guide on deleting these files, visit the 2K support site.

This update comes on the heels of confirmation that Civilization 7 will not require the 2K launcher. Additionally, the publisher may be working on an unannounced remake, with Bioshock and Spec Ops: The Line being potential candidates.
