A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck Chiba Prefecture, located east of Japan's capital, and was also perceptible in Tokyo's 23 wards on Thursday, according to the weather agency, which did not issue a tsunami warning. Kyodo News cited the Japan Meteorological Agency reporting that the earthquake happened around 12:12pm local time and measured 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the cities of Katsuura and Isumi in Chiba. The seismic event originated offshore from the eastern coast of Chiba at a depth of approximately 50 kilometers.
