A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck off Indonesia's eastern Maluku province on Tuesday morning without causing large waves, according to the country's meteorology, climatology, and geophysics agency.
The agency initially reported the earthquake as a magnitude 6.2, but later corrected it to a magnitude 5.9. No tsunami warning was issued by the authority as the tremors were not expected to generate giant waves.
Indonesia, situated in the 'Pacific Ring of Fire,' is frequently affected by earthquakes.
