On Friday, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit close to the coast of Peru, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ). The US National Tsunami Warning Centre warned of a potential tsunami threat due to the earthquake, based on current data. The UAE's National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) also detected the tremor at 9:36 am local time through its seismic network. Initially reported as a 6.4 magnitude, GFZ later confirmed the quake's depth to be 10km (6.21 miles).
