We have sensed a significant disturbance in the Force, as if countless voices cried out in fear and were abruptly silenced. We suspect something dreadful has occurred... and, indeed, it has. No, we're not referring to recent events across the Atlantic or the inexplicable delay of Mickey 17, but rather the news from Variety that another Star Wars project has been sidelined (at least temporarily) by Disney and Lucasfilm.

According to Variety, an unnamed Star Wars film scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, has been postponed, with Ice Age 6 taking its place. This follows the recent news that director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's planned Rey movie, featuring Daisy Ridley, has lost screenwriter Steven Knight. Although there's no official connection between the two, it's plausible that the delayed film could be Obaid-Chinoy's project. Additionally, with Simon Kinberg now reportedly working on a new trilogy set in the Star Wars universe, where Ridley's Jedi character might play a central role, it will be intriguing to see how these Rey-centric projects unfold.

While any Star Wars project being removed from the schedule, even temporarily, is disheartening, there's still hope for fans. The Mandalorian & Grogu movie remains on track for a May 2026 release. Another Star Wars film is slated for December 17, 2027. Moreover, Skeleton Crew is just weeks away from debuting on Disney+, and the second season of Andor is coming soon (April 22, 2025).
