In a discussion centered on leveraging advanced technology to bolster sustainability efforts, Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, met with Brad Smith, Vice Chairman and President of Microsoft Corporation. The two parties explored avenues to capitalize on the numerous opportunities arising from strategic partnerships among companies, organizations, and entities operating in the fields of artificial intelligence, energy, and climate.
The meeting took place at the Abu Dhabi Energy Centre, alongside the ENACT Council's “Activating Action” event, which features over 80 leaders from the energy, technology, and investment sectors worldwide. The discussion also emphasized the ongoing strategic collaboration between ADNOC, Masdar, G42, and Microsoft in harnessing the potential of advanced artificial intelligence technologies and solutions. This collaboration aims to keep up with global changes, facilitate a significant shift in the global energy sector, and employ low-carbon energy solutions to operate the infrastructure required for artificial intelligence systems.
During the meeting, strategies for continuing to benefit from Microsoft's expertise in advanced technology and artificial intelligence were outlined, with the goal of fulfilling the UAE and Abu Dhabi's ambitions in transitioning to clean energy and boosting the growth of artificial intelligence across various sectors.
The meeting also delved into the strategic partnership between Microsoft, ADNOC, and Masdar, focusing on methods to supply Microsoft's data centers with renewable energy, aligning with global trends toward enhancing sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. This cooperation underscores the commitment of all parties to support the shift to clean energy sources, thereby enhancing the UAE and Abu Dhabi's leadership in green technology and sustainable energy solutions.
Additionally, the meeting highlighted the UAE and Abu Dhabi's robust business infrastructure, advanced legal frameworks, and competitive incentives for companies and investors, positioning them as prime locations for global companies to thrive in key sectors.
This discussion followed the release of a joint report by ADNOC, Masdar, and Microsoft on October 31, 2024, titled “Enhancing Capabilities: Artificial Intelligence and Energy for a Sustainable Future.” The report underscored the role of artificial intelligence in improving energy efficiency, managing complex systems, reducing emissions, and supporting climate neutrality while meeting the growing demand for energy from data centers for artificial intelligence technologies.
The meeting was attended by Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNOC; Mansour Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Chairman of the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi; and Saif Saeed Ghobash, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
