Abu Dhabi schools will soon be required to ensure that the weight of students' backpacks does not exceed 5-10 per cent of their own weight, according to a revised policy issued by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge.

The authority has calculated specific weight limits for students across various grades based on recommendations from the American Chiropractic Association. Individual factors such as overall health, physical strength, and any existing health conditions should be taken into account to prevent adverse effects on students' spines or bodies.

This advisory also states that schools are expected to comply with this policy starting from February 1, 2026. Here are the maximum backpack weights for students: meher@khaleejtimes.com
