Abu Dhabi's People of Determination are set to receive enhanced support and protection with the unveiling of a new policy by authorities. The policy is designed to safeguard people of determination from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and discrimination by establishing a unified support system. This system ensures that individuals with disabilities have access to specialized protection and services, beginning with awareness campaigns, early detection of abuse, reporting mechanisms, situation assessments, and interventions to ensure their safety and well-being.
The policy also emphasizes that protecting people of determination is a collective responsibility, involving families, workers, and service providers across various sectors. It aims to increase community awareness about the rights of people of determination and the procedures for reporting cases of maltreatment, while also highlighting the Abu Dhabi government's efforts to create a supportive and empowering environment for them.
Moreover, the policy seeks to reduce the behavioural, communication, physical, and institutional barriers that people of determination face, enabling them to participate fully in society on equal terms with others. The Department of Community Development (DCD) announced this new policy in collaboration with the Family Care Authority, which will serve as the primary body for handling cases involving people with disabilities, working alongside other authorities, partners, and community members across Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Layla Abdulaziz Al Hyas, Executive Director of the Community Development Sector at DCD, stated, "The launch of this policy is part of our continuous efforts to enhance the rights of people of determination and provide them with opportunities to integrate into all aspects of life. By removing obstacles and encouraging them to reach their full potential, we take a significant step towards reinforcing a lasting commitment to improve their quality of life and ensure equal access to their rights, opportunities, and services, thereby advancing societal justice."
Asma Al Azri, Executive Director of the Family Cases Sector at the Family Care Authority, added, "Our objective is to implement a unified and systematic approach to receiving the files of people of determination beneficiaries, conducting necessary assessments, and providing specialized care and necessary support. We also aim to take proactive preventive measures and ensure immediate intervention for reported cases of abuse through the Family Care Authority's call center at 800-444."
