Wayne Northrop, a renowned actor best known for his roles in “Dynasty” and “Days of Our Lives,” has passed away at the age of 77. His publicist, Cynthia Snyder, confirmed to Deadline that Northrop died on Friday at the Motion Picture and Television Woodland Hills Home after a prolonged struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

“Wayne was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s six years ago. He took his last breath in the arms of his family,” shared Lynn Herring Northrop, his wife, in a statement. She also expressed gratitude to The Motion Picture and Television Home for their exceptional care.

Northrop was born on April 12, 1947, in Sumner, Washington. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Washington and later took acting classes at Seattle Community College before relocating to Los Angeles. His early acting career included appearances on shows like “Enough Is Enough,” “Baretta,” and “The Waltons.”

Northrop’s most notable roles were as Detective Roman Brady on “Days of Our Lives” from 1981 to 1984 and again from 1991 to 1994, and as Dr. Alex North on the NBC soap opera from 2005 to 2006. He also starred as Michael Culhane in “Dynasty” from 1981 to 1987 and appeared on “General Hospital” spinoff “Port Charles” as Rex Stanton from 1997 to 1998.

Northrop married Lynn Herring, who was Miss Virginia USA 1977 and a 4th runner-up in Miss USA 1977, in 1981. Lynn has been a recurring character, Lucy Coe, on “General Hospital” and “Port Charles” since 1986, earning two Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Passionate about wildlife and conservation, Northrop and his wife purchased a working cattle ranch in Raymond, Calif., after their marriage. They later acquired the oldest house in Raymond in 2008, transforming it into a museum that is now listed on the registry of historical places.
