Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), a prominent Islamic financial institution, has revealed a significant digital achievement with over one million users now registered on its mobile application. This represents a doubling from the 500,000 users recorded in 2021, indicating the increasing appeal of ADIB’s digital banking services. The bank has noted a rise in new customers opting to open accounts via the mobile app, with 80% of its clientele actively utilizing its digital services. In line with the growing demand for easy account setup, ADIB has introduced an enhanced account opening process that utilizes Emirates Facial Recognition (EFR) and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technologies. Prospective customers can now scan their Emirates ID, provide personal information, and take a selfie to open an account instantly. They will then receive a digital, personalized debit card that is immediately available in their mobile wallet. ADIB has also been proactive in enhancing its mobile app, adding 54 new features in the last year, including IPO subscriptions, push notifications, improved consumer protection, and advanced security measures for transactions. Fernando Plaza Lopez, Chief Digital Officer at ADIB, commented, “Achieving one million mobile app users is a notable milestone, and ADIB is dedicated to ongoing enhancements. Through a focus on innovation and user experience, we aim to make banking effortless and universally accessible. By integrating EFR, OCR, and real-time integrations, we are simplifying processes and providing a more tailored banking experience.” Plaza further noted, “This advancement significantly enhances the speed, ease, and accessibility of banking for all. Responding to popular demand, this process also allows customers to open our newly improved Ghina Savings Account, which now offers a chance to win a million dirhams each month, along with 45 other monthly cash prizes.” ADIB has incorporated AI technology into its mobile app to deliver a more personalized banking experience, including tailored lifestyle offers from SmartDeals. The bank has recently upgraded its mobile app with a better layout, more intuitive navigation, enhanced security features, and over 150 services available. ADIB has also taken strategic steps to improve the mobile app experience and became the first bank in the UAE to offer remote account opening for SMEs through its mobile app, streamlining business processes and eliminating the need for branch visits and physical documentation.
