Adnoc revealed on Wednesday that its offshore Satah Al Razboot (SARB) field has experienced a 25 percent surge in production capacity due to the adoption of cutting-edge digital technologies. This boost in production at the SARB field, now reaching 140,000 barrels per day (bpd), aligns with Adnoc’s goal to elevate its production capacity to 5 million barrels of oil per day by 2027.

Situated 120km northwest of Abu Dhabi, the digital technologies implemented at SARB enable remote operation from Zirku island, just 20km away. The integration of remote monitoring, smart well operations, and production management technologies at the remote control center facilitates optimized real-time decision-making, leading to increased field capacity with reduced costs and emissions. The digitalization of the field paves the way for the introduction of additional AI solutions to further refine and optimize operations.

SARB commenced operations in 2018 and is part of the SARB and Umm Lulu Concession, jointly held by Adnoc, OMV, TotalEnergies, and SOCAR, and operated by Adnoc Offshore. In line with Adnoc’s initiative to decrease its carbon intensity by 25 percent by 2030, SARB has transitioned from gas turbine generators to a permanent power supply from Zirku island through high voltage subsea cables. This project, initiated in 2020, is integral to Adnoc’s strategy to electrify its offshore assets and reduce the carbon footprint of its offshore operations by up to 50 percent.

Abdulmunim Saif Al Kindy, Adnoc’s upstream executive director, stated: “AI and digitalization are central to Adnoc’s strategic growth, aiming to meet the increasing global energy demand responsibly. The deployment of advanced technologies at SARB field has not only increased production capacity but also enhanced the safety, sustainability, and efficiency of our operations, reinforcing Adnoc’s status as one of the world’s most cost-effective and least carbon-intensive energy producers.”

The technologies implemented at SARB field include those developed by AIQ, an Abu Dhabi-based AI leader providing transformative solutions to the energy sector. AIQ’s solutions, DrillRep and OptiDrill, analyze data from rigs and wells at the field, improving drilling efficiency and optimization. By leveraging daily drilling data reports and rig sensor data, AIQ’s technology supports drilling operations with essential insights and actions to optimize the drilling process.
