UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, Sultan Al Jaber, addressed the opening ceremony of the annual energy industry event ADIPEC in Abu Dhabi, UAE, on November 4, 2024. The event was covered by Reuters.
ADNOC, a leading energy company in the UAE, plans to introduce highly autonomous agentic artificial intelligence into the energy sector for the first time, in collaboration with G42, Microsoft, and AIQ. This announcement was made by ADNOC's CEO, Sultan Al Jaber, during a recent industry event in Abu Dhabi.
The UAE, a long-standing security partner of the U.S., is seeking enhanced access to American technology to bolster its own advanced tech industry. G42, a key player in this initiative, secured a $1.5 billion investment from Microsoft in April, aiming to diversify the UAE's economy beyond oil.
Jaber, who also serves as the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and COP28 President, highlighted the rapid growth of AI, noting that its power surge was unforeseen just 18 months ago when ChatGPT was launched. Agentic AI is viewed as the next frontier in artificial intelligence, enabling systems to operate autonomously and execute tasks on behalf of users.
According to Jaber, this advanced AI will not only analyze vast amounts of data but also proactively identify operational improvements. It is expected to expedite seismic surveys from months to days and enhance the accuracy of production forecasts by up to 90%.
The UAE is investing billions in artificial intelligence, including the development of Arabic and Hindi language chatbot applications akin to OpenAI's ChatGPT. Emirati officials are confident that the Gulf state's investment in AI will elevate its global influence, positioning it as a significant economic player even after the demand for oil diminishes.
