Aitana Sánchez Gijón has been bestowed with the most prestigious honor that the Spanish Film Academy can confer, the Goya of Honour 2025. This esteemed award will be presented during the gala of the 39th edition of the Goya Awards, scheduled for 8 February in Granada.

Sánchez Gijón has conveyed her astonishment at receiving this accolade, remarking that she felt she was still too 'young' to be distinguished with such recognition. However, she emphasized that she was not considering declining the honor. The actress boasts a distinguished career spanning film, theatre, and television. Although born in Rome, her father is Spanish, and she has cultivated her career primarily in Spain. She commenced her professional journey in the 1980s and swiftly emerged as one of the most recognized figures in the Spanish artistic landscape.

Her debut on the silver screen was with 'Romanza final', but it was in the 1990s that she truly gained widespread acclaim, notably through roles in films such as 'Boca a boca', directed by Manuel Gómez Pereira, and 'La camarera del Titanic', directed by Bigas Luna. These roles significantly elevated her visibility both domestically and internationally.

One of the pivotal moments in her career was her involvement in 'A Walk in the Clouds' (1995), a Hollywood production where she shared the lead with Keanu Reeves. This role facilitated her entry into international cinema and solidified her status as a versatile and renowned actress.
