Rashed Al Qemzi is targeting a consecutive win in Lithuania this weekend to boost Team Abu Dhabi's chances of a remarkable victory in the 2024 UIM F2 World Championship. Al Qemzi, who is vying to become the first driver to win the F2 world title five times, is in high spirits after his recent victory in Norway, which propelled him to the top of the championship standings.
Accompanied by his teammate, Mansoor Al Mansoori, who has risen to fourth place following his runner-up finish in Tønsberg, Al Qemzi is keen to make this season extraordinary. "This year's championship is more challenging than ever, which motivates us even more as a team," Al Qemzi remarked. "Our performance in Norway was flawless after a tough start in Italy, and we aim to continue this momentum.
"Mansoor and I collaborate effectively and support each other, and we are determined to maintain our strong performance in Lithuania and make this a phenomenal season." Al Qemzi has enjoyed success in Lithuania, having won three Grand Prix there, including a dominant victory in KlaipÄ—da last year despite starting in fourth place.
Al Mansoori, who won his first Grand Prix in Lithuania two years ago, eventually finished third in the championship and now aims to at least match that result. The Team Abu Dhabi pair will need to perform at their peak in KlaipÄ—da, where local hero Edgaras Riabko, just one point behind Al Qemzi, will be looking to secure a victory for Lithuania.
The championship's third round commences with free practice on Friday afternoon, followed by a three-stage qualifying series in the evening, where Al Qemzi aims to secure another pole position. Al Mansoori's immediate goal is to close the gap on British driver Matthew Palfreyman, who leads him by five points in third place after winning the opening round in Italy and failing to finish in Norway.
