Remedy Entertainment has openly acknowledged that the worlds of Alan Wake and Control are interconnected within a shared universe. Now, the Remedy Connected Universe is becoming even more apparent with the release of Alan Wake 2's new DLC, The Lake House, which directly intersects with the aftermath of the first Control, while also hinting at Control 2. There are spoilers ahead for Alan Wake 2: The Lake House, so proceed with caution if you haven't played it or wish to remain uninformed about its events.
The Lake House places players in the shoes of Agent Kiran Estevez, a member of the Federal Bureau of Control. During the story, Kiran finds herself transported to the Oldest House, the former headquarters of the FBC and the setting of the original Control. Here, she encounters Dylan Faden, the brother of Control's protagonist, Jesse Faden, who provides cryptic information about the FBC's fate. Dylan even mentions Jesse by name before Kiran is abruptly returned from the Oldest House. This encounter reveals that it has been four years since any contact was made with the Oldest House, raising questions about Jesse's whereabouts since the events of Control.
This isn't the first instance of cross-referencing between the two game series. Control's AWE DLC directly addressed Alan Wake's story, temporarily connecting Jesse with Alan through a series of visions. Control 2 does not yet have a release date, but Remedy recently announced a partnership with Annapurna Pictures to co-produce the game, and to explore potential TV and film adaptations for both Alan Wake and Control.
