LOS ANGELES, CALIF. – Ali Larter’s family is thriving in Idaho. The “Landman” star shared with Fox News Digital that her family relocated to the Northwest from Los Angeles at the onset of the pandemic, and they simply never returned.

“If it was a conscious decision, I would never have believed it,” she explained recently. “It was during COVID when our kids’ schools were closed, so we went for two months. We thought, ‘OK, let’s go skiing.’” Larter and her actor husband, Hayes MacArthur, are parents to daughter Vivienne, 9, and son Theodore, 3.

“My daughter was in kindergarten… It was a terrible time,” she continued. They returned to Los Angeles over the summer before deciding to make the move permanent. “We thought, ‘Let’s give it a try,’ and we were fortunate to find a wonderful community there,” the 48-year-old said. “We really embraced the ethos of the town. It’s a simpler life with very kind people, and there’s a sense of accountability in a small town that we loved for raising our children.”

The “Obsessed” actress, who married MacArthur in 2009, loves the small-town vibe. “I think a lot of it is about family and nature,” she said. “There are no big box stores; you’re not stuck in traffic. There’s more time in the day to appreciate and acknowledge life as a family, especially with both my husband and I working so much.”

Larter also told Fox News Digital that the move was a “complete surprise” to her and her husband. “I don’t think Hayes and I ever thought we’d leave Hollywood, but after the pandemic, it really changed our town, and a lot of work moved elsewhere. So, my husband’s shooting ‘The Runarounds’ in Wilmington, and I’m in Fort Worth doing ‘Landman’. We wouldn’t be in LA anyway, so it’s been exciting to make this bold move and prioritize our family.”

After finishing the press tour, Larter is looking forward to being “back with my family.” “This is a two-week press tour, so being away from my kids for so long is my limit,” she said. “I can’t wait to be grateful for that and also to reflect on how challenging but rewarding shooting this show was. I’m so proud we were able to launch it. Paramount has been amazing, and I hope people love it as much as we loved making it.”

In September, MacArthur told Rue magazine about their move, “The industry was at a standstill, and our kids were stuck on screens for remote schooling.” Larter added, “So, after a year, we packed up the car and left. We saw it as an opportunity for a family adventure and started driving north.” She continued, “We fell in love with the beauty of the mountains and their quiet grandeur. Neither of us had ever lived in a small town before. People look out for each other. There’s a real sense of community here, and we’re so happy to be a part of it.”

Larter and MacArthur solidified their move by building a new 4,400-square-foot home in Sun Valley. “Looking at the mountains relaxes and inspires me,” Larter explained. “Most of the time in my life, I feel like I’m going 1,000 miles an hour, and these giant rocks calm me down.”

“Landman,” created by “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan, is about the oil business and stars Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, and Demi Moore. Larter explained to Fox News Digital that she was inspired by Angela’s West Texan accent and her glamorous wardrobe to get into character. “It all starts with the script, but one of the things is we – I worked with my accent coach Jessica Drake twice a week, and there’s a big thing with the ‘WH’s down in West Texas. What, where, why, when,” she demonstrated in the accent. “They put a little air in their ‘WH’s, and so getting in the accent was something for me. Also, Angela is a very glamorous woman, and she loves to wear her leopard print bodysuits and her… jeans. So, putting on her wardrobe and her heels was a big thing for me, and the hair and makeup, and then it was a kind of moment of transforming into this character that is very provocative and very bold and comfortable in her body.”

“Landman” is now streaming on Paramount+.
