Following the box-office triumph of Alien: Romulus, it seems a sequel might already be in development.
"We're currently working on a sequel concept," revealed Steve Asbell, the head of 20th Century Studios, in a recent interview with THR. "We haven't finalized our agreement with [Romulus director] Fede [Alvarez] yet, but we will, and he has a concept we're collaborating on."
Asbell also hinted at some potential plot elements for the sequel. "The two survivors, Rain and Andy—played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson—were standout characters in the film," Asbell noted. "So, I often wonder, 'Where do fans want to see them go next?' We know there will be aliens and intense horror scenes. But I really connected with both characters, and I'm eager to explore their journey further."
Alien: Romulus grossed over $350.8 million globally on an $80 million budget, demonstrating the franchise's continued financial strength and the enduring appeal of Ridley Scott's acid-blooded creature on the big screen. (It seems audiences also have a nostalgic craving for VHS, as the film is getting a VHS release alongside the Blu-ray.)
However, a Romulus sequel isn't the only creature feature on the horizon—Asbell disclosed that 20th Century Studios has not one but two Predator films in the works, both slated for a 2025 release. "Two Predator films are coming out next year," Asbell said. "One I can't discuss yet, but the other is the live-action Predator film starring Elle Fanning, which just finished filming in New Zealand. It will hit theaters sometime next year."
When asked about the possibility of a new Alien vs. Predator film, Asbell simply replied, "Probably."
2024 has been a standout year for Alien fans, with the release of Alien: Romulus and the announcement of a sequel to the iconic survival horror game Alien: Isolation. Based on Asbell's recent remarks, it appears this trend will continue into 2025, with Predator fans also having much to anticipate.
