Just a week after Intel's latest desktop CPUs hit the market, AMD has responded with the announcement of its first 3D V-Cache-equipped chip in the 9000-series lineup, promising it to be the fastest gaming CPU available. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is the newest addition to AMD's line of 3D V-Cache CPUs, each of which has become a staple in high-performance gaming PCs. This model is the first to incorporate AMD's 2nd-generation 3D V-Cache technology, with AMD claiming that this latest CPU is, on average, 8% faster than the previous generation's 7800X3D, which is widely considered the best CPU for gaming performance.

Perhaps more indicative of Intel's recent challenges is AMD's claim that the 9800X3D is, on average, 20% faster than Intel's flagship Ultra 9 285K, which launched just last week. The 9800X3D also boasts a base clock speed of 4.7 GHz, with a boost to 5.2 GHz and a TDP of 120W. AMD hopes that these improvements will also enhance the 9800X3D's productivity performance, which has been a weak point in the series. Additionally, this will be the first X3D chip unlocked for overclocking, allowing enthusiasts to push the limits of the CPU with strategic adjustments.

The 9800X3D is set to launch soon, with availability expected on November 7. However, this enhanced performance comes at a higher price, with the 9800X3D retailing for $479. This is $30 more than the launch price of the 7800X3D, which can often be found on sale for under $400. Given that both the 7000 series and 9000 series use the same motherboard chipset, consumers now have even more options for upgrading their PCs.
