Despite the new C63 and GLC63 transitioning to four-cylinder engines, causing concern among enthusiasts, AMG's future remains promising as Mercedes has affirmed the continuation of V-8 models. The identity of the next vehicle from Affalterbach equipped with a 4.0-liter engine remains undisclosed, but speculation points to the CLE63. Mercedes-Benz Australia's media relations and product communications head, Jerry Stamoulis, reassured CarSales about the V-8's future: "We've got more to come. V8 is still part of our portfolio. So there are still options. If you really want a V-8 AMG, we have one. We've got more to come. Yeah, it's another model [than the C63]. Yeah, but the C63 sedan tends to introduce the new technology."

The CLE, which integrates the coupe and convertible versions of the C-Class and E-Class, already features a larger engine than the C-Class. The AMG CLE53 is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, while the anticipated CLE63 is expected to retain the V-8. Autocar reported earlier this year that Mercedes' senior officials confirmed the CLE63 would use the M177 engine with mild-hybrid technology. However, initial plans for the CLE63 included a plug-in hybrid setup with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, similar to the C63, which would have been controversial for those favoring larger engines. Despite the shift in powertrain strategy, the CLE63 is slated for a debut before the end of 2024 in both coupe and convertible forms.

The powertrain for the next-generation E63 remains uncertain, with AMG CEO Michael Schiebe hinting at a departure from the V-8 about a year ago. A plug-in hybrid inline-six is speculated to offer more power than the CLE63, but the use of a smaller gas engine might disappoint some potential buyers.
