Analogue has unveiled its modernized Nintendo 64 console, the Analogue 3D. Initially teased exactly a year ago, this console plays N64 game cartridges in stunning 4K resolution. Like other Analogue products, the 3D utilizes FPGA technology to deliver an authentic N64 experience while leveraging the advantages of modern displays. It supports all original accessories, including a new-style controller developed in collaboration with 8BitDo, which looks both stylish and functional.

Designed to capture the essence of CRT on a 4K TV, the Analogue 3D offers various display modes that mimic the look of old-school television sets. Available in white and black models, the console is priced at $250. Preorders start on October 21 at 8 AM PT, and given Analogue's track record, it's expected to sell out quickly. Shipping is slated for Q1 2025.

With certain display modes activated, players can enjoy their N64 game library in ultra-high definition, complete with faithfully reproduced scanlines, shadow masks, and other CRT effects. The Analogue 3D boasts 10 times the native 320x240 resolution of the N64 without any lag, making it region-free and compatible with the entire N64 library.

The custom-built Analogue 3D OS, inspired by the Pocket, features Library and Memories hubs. Library catalogs your games, while Memories stores your save states and screenshots, allowing you to save progress at any time and resume from the same spot. The console includes four controller ports, an HDMI port, two USB ports, and an SD card slot supporting up to 16GB SDHC cards. It comes with an HDMI cable, USB cord, and a USB-C power supply, along with built-in Dualband Wi-Fi for firmware updates and support for standard Bluetooth and Bluetooth LE.

Analogue spent four years perfecting the FPGA technology for an accurate N64 experience, aiming to surpass N64 emulators. The 8BitDo N64 controller, sold separately for $40, is compatible with Nintendo Switch, Windows, and Android. It features a Hall Effect joystick, improved over the original N64 controller, and offers high customization through 8BitDo's Ultimate Software. Preorders for the controller open simultaneously with the console.

For those preferring original controllers, preowned N64 controllers are available at GameStop for $18 each. However, third-party controllers on Amazon may not guarantee seamless performance. Given the multiplayer focus of many N64 games, having extra controllers is advisable to fully utilize the Analogue 3D's four controller ports, supporting both wireless and wired controllers.
