Anti-whaling activist Paul Watson will remain in detention in Greenland as Denmark deliberates on whether to extradite him to Japan, according to local police reports on Wednesday.

The 73-year-old US-Canadian, who founded the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and the Captain Paul Watson Foundation, was apprehended by authorities when his vessel arrived at the port of Nuuk on July 21.

A police spokesperson confirmed that Watson's detention will continue until December 4, noting that he has appealed the decision made by the Greenlandic court.

Japan issued an international arrest warrant for Watson over a decade ago, stemming from allegations that he trespassed onto a Japanese vessel in the Antarctic Ocean in 2010, interfering with its operations and causing harm and property damage.
