Apple is poised to captivate tech enthusiasts by first unveiling iPhone 16 models in global markets, followed by the release of the new operating system, iOS 18. This update introduces a range of innovative features and enhancements that significantly improve the user experience on Apple's devices. Announced at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in June, iOS 18 was made available to the public on September 16, a week after the launch of the new iPhone 16 lineup and Watch Series 10.
The update includes several new features such as Rich Communication Services (RCS) messaging, enhanced Home Screen organization, a customizable Control Center, and the standout feature—Apple Intelligence. This is not the first time Apple has released an updated operating system alongside new iPhones, but iOS 18 stands out with its focus on customization, privacy, and convenience, offering users a more personalized experience.
Tech experts highlight Apple Intelligence as one of the top features of iOS 18. Although the initial features won't be available until iOS 18.1, expected by the end of October, the update promises significant advancements in AI, including Image Playground, Genmoji, Siri enhancements, and on-screen awareness. Apple is taking a cautious approach with AI, with some features slated for release as late as 2025.
Abhinav Purohit, a UAE-based strategy consultant, emphasizes that iOS 18 marks a new era for Apple in generative AI. The update includes various AI features such as Image Playground, Genmoji, and new writing tools, signaling Apple's entry into the AI domain. Purohit also notes the advanced safety features of iOS 18, which enhance security for digital payments and app management.
iOS 18 will be supported on devices that run iOS 17, but only the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models will have access to Apple Intelligence. Key features of iOS 18 include scheduling messages, satellite messaging, customizable control layouts, a redesigned Photos app, personalized emojis, background cleanup tools, improved Notes app organization, enhanced Siri interaction, and secure app blocking with Face ID.
