AR Rahman's wife, Saira Banu, has announced her separation from the renowned music composer, director, and singer after 29 years of marriage, according to Indian media reports. Banu's legal representative issued a statement to India Today, detailing the 'emotional strain' that had impacted their nearly three-decade-long union. The couple shares three children — Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen.

“After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband, Mr. AR Rahman. This decision was reached following significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their profound love for one another, the couple has acknowledged that the tensions and challenges have created an unbridgeable chasm between them, a gap neither feels capable of closing at this juncture. Mrs. Saira emphasized that she has taken this decision out of deep pain and anguish,” the statement read.

“Mrs. Saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time, as she navigates this difficult chapter in her life.”
