Arachnophobia, the fear of spiders, appears to be gaining traction in the video game industry. Earlier this year, BioWare confirmed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard would be entirely free of spiders, despite their presence in previous titles of the series. Now, Monster Hunter Wilds has been unveiled, featuring spiders, but with an option to replace them entirely.

The Monster Hunter Wilds beta has been launched, and as reported by Automaton, observant players have discovered an Arachnophobia Assistance feature. The game includes spiders, some of which are giant and could serve as challenging boss fights. However, once the Arachnophobia Assistance feature is activated, all spiders vanish. This doesn't exempt players from the battles; it merely substitutes the spiders with other creatures. For instance, common spiders transform into blob-like slime creatures that are equally challenging to combat. Presumably, giant spiders will also be replaced when they appear in the game.

Not all gamers suffer from Arachnophobia, and some might relish the opportunity to battle against arachnids in the game. However, the sight of realistically rendered spiders, complete with hairy legs and multiple eyes, might be too intense for some players. Regardless, players can choose whether to confront their fears or simply ignore the creatures with a simple switch.

Monster Hunter Wilds is set to release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on February 28, 2025. PS Plus subscribers currently have early access to the beta, which will be extended to non-subscribers on PS5 on October 31, the same day the beta launches for PC and Xbox Series X|S. However, the beta will only be available until November 3.
