This weekend, Arcane Season 2 is concluding with a grand finale. However, the League of Legends-inspired series reportedly led to some tension between Riot Games and Netflix over an AI-generated promo poster for Arcane Season 2. A user on X, known as eggbertith, spotted the image and shared it online. The giveaway that it was AI-created was the anatomically incorrect hand, a common issue in AI-generated imagery. The image was subsequently removed from Netflix, and Arcane brand lead Alex Shahmiri confirmed that the poster was indeed made by AI. He also mentioned that it violated Riot Games' policy of not using AI-related content for Arcane, as it would be disrespectful to the talented artists who worked on the show.
While it remains uncertain whether Netflix and Riot Games will collaborate on another animated series set in the League of Legends universe, the cost of Arcane Season 2 might have been the deciding factor in ending the show there. According to a recent report in Variety, Arcane is the most expensive animated series ever created, with Riot Games reportedly spending $250 million to produce and promote it. The report also revealed that Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars directors Joe and Anthony Russo were initially hired to develop a live-action movie set in the League of Legends universe. However, after parting ways with Riot Games due to creative differences, the brothers received a $5 million payout before exiting the project.
