Turkish shipyard Ares Yachts has joined forces with Dutch studio Mulder Design on a 70-metre custom yacht project named Opal. The hull is being constructed at Ares' facilities in Antalya, with an anticipated delivery timeframe of 36 months. Project Opal is distinguished by its clean, organic lines that "blend seamlessly with the marine environment rather than demanding attention," as described by Bas Mulder, the studio's founder. The yacht is built upon Mulder's established hull design, which can enhance speed by up to 30% depending on the chosen engine configuration. Key specifications include a 13-metre beam, a draft of 3.15 metres, and a volume exceeding 1,400GT. The layout incorporates "signature Mulder Design features," such as flared bulwarks on the upper deck, expanding the exterior space around the owner's suite. The preliminary layout also includes a guest skylounge on this level, though the entire area could be transformed into a private owner's retreat with a cockpit lounge. The remaining six guest cabins are located on the main deck, alongside the saloon and formal dining area, which opens out to a multi-zone aft deck featuring a bar, al fresco dining, and lounge area. Meanwhile, the top deck accommodates the wheelhouse and captain's cabin, along with a sundeck area and access to a concealed observation deck in front of the mast, complete with a spa pool. Guests will enjoy a beach club with glass doors, connected to a large transformer platform. A transverse garage houses the yacht's tenders and toys, while the foredeck can function as a touch-and-go helipad. "This will be a unique project, and what sets it apart is the swift delivery time due to our extensive experience as a major shipyard and our excellent reputation," stated Şahin Kaya Orhun, managing director at Ares Yachts. "We anticipate four months for finalizing the general arrangement and superstructure architecture, and 32 months to complete the build, which is an outstanding delivery time for a custom 70-metre project. It will be constructed to commercial standards, with potential for various propulsion options, including Voith Linear Jets if performance in the mid-20-knot range is desired, or hybrid and even fully electric propulsion packages." "The synergy of advanced hull naval architecture and modern superstructure, combined with Ares Yachts' ability to deliver the highest standards of construction and finish, makes this the ideal yacht for effortless, efficient cruising in understated luxury," Mulder concluded. "We believe many will be intrigued by the project, and we look forward to engaging with prospective clients and bringing their dream yacht to life." Ares Yachts' flagship is also currently under construction in Antalya, with delivery scheduled for next year.
