The Automated Rapid Transit (ART), a cutting-edge rail-less transport system, has commenced operations on weekdays with extended hours, reflecting its increasing appeal among commuters. The pilot phase of these innovative and sustainable ARTs, which was launched in October last year, links Reem Mall and Marina Mall. Initially operating from Friday to Sunday between 10 am and 3 pm, this tram-like, eco-friendly mode of transport now runs from Monday to Friday, with the last service extended until 8 pm.

Commuters have shared with Khaleej Times that the air-conditioned ARTs have recently begun operating on weekdays. "The ART service has started on working days. I believe it's been over a month now. Previously, it was only available on weekends. It's a significant relief during this intense summer weather. I frequently use it because it's more comfortable than a public bus. I can avoid the rush during peak hours. Also, Reem Island is a busy route in the evening, so ARTs are a convenient option," said Paul Alfredo, who works in Reem Island and lives in an apartment on Electra Street, which is served by the ART.

This smart mobility solution utilizes state-of-the-art technology and can transport 200 passengers. Operating on a 27km route between Reem Mall and Marina Mall, it stops at popular destinations such as Marina Square, the Galleria Al Maryah Island, Qasr Al Hosn, Khalidiya Park, Sheikha Fatima Park, the Abu Dhabi Energy Centre, and various hospitals and hotels including City Seasons Al Hamra, Sheraton Al Khalidiya, and Rixos Marina Abu Dhabi.

Yassin Aref, an expat working at Reem Mall, noted that the extension of ARTs to working days has provided significant relief for people like him. "I was reliant on bus number 63, which travels through Electra Street. It was the only bus connecting Reem Mall and the city. So, I'm pleased to be able to use this during working days. However, its 60-minute frequency is a challenge. You have to wait an hour for the next service," Aref said.
