Images purportedly showcasing the battle pass for Assassin's Creed Shadows have surfaced online, revealing a range of rewards players might unlock when the open-world game debuts next year. If authentic, this would mark the first time an Assassin's Creed title features a battle pass for players to navigate. The leaked images and datamined information indicate that players can advance through a free tier by completing daily missions in the new Animus hub, thereby unlocking various cosmetic items for their characters and weapons.
Although Ubisoft has not officially acknowledged the existence of a battle pass, the company has issued a DMCA takedown request for the Reddit thread that aggregated these images—originally discovered by dataminer Fraxiswinning—and similar posts on social media platforms. Among the cosmetic items are futuristic weapon skins and armor, mythological mounts, and in-game resources. One of the leaked images also depicts co-protagonist Yasuke within the Animus hub.
While the battle pass system is a novel addition to Assassin's Creed, the concept of cosmetic gear has been a staple for many years. The Ubisoft Connect app has consistently provided unlockable gear for completing in-game challenges, and recent games have included a seemingly immortal merchant named Reda who exchanged rare equipment for elusive—yet easily purchasable with real money—resources like Opals.
Initially slated for an October release, Assassin's Creed Shadows was postponed to February 14, 2025, to allow more time for polishing. This new installment will also set the stage for future games by being integrated into the Assassin's Creed Infinity hub, an in-universe Animus where the ongoing modern-day narrative will unfold. Assassin's Creed boss Marc-Alexis Coté recently discussed this aspect, emphasizing Ubisoft's intent to steer the modern-day storylines in a new direction.
