Ubisoft has announced that Assassin's Creed Syndicate, originally released in 2015, will soon be playable at 60fps on current-generation hardware through a free update. The update is set to roll out on November 19, enhancing the game's frame rate on modern consoles and adding support for 4K resolution on the Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and the new PS5 Pro. PlayStation users will need to download a 0.75 GB update, while Xbox users will face a larger 32 GB update. Ubisoft did not provide a reason for this update nearly a decade after the game's initial release, but encouraged players to "discover, or rediscover, this classic on new generation consoles."

Set in London during the Industrial Revolution, Assassin's Creed Syndicate was the first game in the series to offer players the choice between two protagonists, twin siblings Jacob and Evie Frye. Jacob is adept at close-range combat, while Evie specializes in stealth, allowing players to select a character that aligns with their playstyle or is better suited for specific missions. Syndicate is the ninth entry in the long-running Ubisoft franchise and followed 2014's Assassin's Creed Unity, which was criticized for its numerous bugs at launch.

Ubisoft recently delayed the next main entry in the series, Assassin's Creed Shadows, set in feudal Japan, to further "polish and refine the experience" after the "softer than expected" reception to their previous open-world game, Star Wars Outlaws. Initially planned for release this November, Assassin's Creed Shadows will now launch on February 14, 2025. Similar to Syndicate, Shadows will feature two protagonists, the African samurai Yasuke and the ninja-like Naoe, allowing players to switch between them freely.
