This year marks the 10th anniversary of Assassin's Creed Unity, the eighth installment in Ubisoft's renowned franchise. Set in Paris during the French Revolution in the late 18th century, the game featured an intricate recreation of the city, including the iconic Notre Dame cathedral.

Ubisoft recently acknowledged in a video timed with the reopening of Notre Dame, five years after its devastating fire, that they had taken creative liberties with the cathedral's appearance. As highlighted in the video, the decision was made to include Notre Dame's famous spire, even though it wasn't added until 1859, long after the game's setting. Ubisoft retained the spire in the game as it is deeply associated with the cathedral's image for contemporary audiences. The cathedral itself dates back to the 12th century and took 182 years to complete.

Following the 2019 fire that severely damaged Notre Dame, it took nearly half a decade to restore it. However, some repair work continues even after its reopening. Ubisoft's video also announced a collaboration with the Notre Dame visitors app, which will utilize assets from Assassin's Creed Unity to showcase images of areas within the cathedral that are off-limits to the public. Additionally, Ubisoft has made the Notre-Dame de Paris: Journey Back in Time VR experience available for free on the Meta store, featuring a virtual tour of the cathedral and a hot-air-balloon ride over 18th-century Paris.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate, the game following Unity, recently received a 60fps upgrade on current-gen consoles. Meanwhile, the upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows, initially slated for release this fall, has been postponed to February 14, 2025. This new entry will introduce a fresh direction for the modern storyline.
