Australia have secured their place in the Pacific Cup final after a commanding 14-0 victory over New Zealand in Christchurch, with fullback Tamika Upton playing a pivotal role. The Jillaroos, already facing pressure from their loss to the Kiwi Ferns in last year's Pacific Cup final and a series of controversial selection decisions, had to navigate second-half injuries to Kezie Apps and Olivia Higgins on Sunday. However, Upton's attacking prowess was the deciding factor, despite New Zealand's strong start and resolute defense at their goal line.

Australia will face either New Zealand or PNG in the Pacific Cup final in Sydney on November 10. The match at Apollo Projects Stadium began with a scoreless first half hour, but Upton's efforts led to two consecutive line dropouts that eventually broke the Kiwi Ferns' defense. Under sustained pressure, veteran Ali Brigginshaw delivered a flat pass to Tiana Penitani, who scored on the right side, where the Jillaroos had been most threatening.

The Kiwi Ferns' defense remained steadfast in the second half, with Annessa Biddle making a crucial try-saving tackle on Simaima Taufa. However, Upton soon capitalized on a gap between New Zealand captain Georgia Hale and Ash Quinlan, sprinting through to score. As the final 15 minutes approached, Jess Sergis extended the lead with a try following an Upton line break.

Injuries plagued the Jillaroos, with Higgins' arm getting caught awkwardly in a tackle, necessitating medical attention. If Higgins is unavailable and Quincy Dodd's quadriceps injury persists, the team may need to rely on third-choice hooker Keeley Davis for the final. Second-rower Kezie Apps also left the field with a left foot injury but returned with strapping for the closing minutes.
