Australia's batsmen struggled against Jasprit Bumrah in Perth, but Travis Head expressed anticipation for another encounter with the Indian fast bowler, whom he considers to be one of the greatest fast bowlers in cricket history. Leading India in place of Rohit Sharma, Bumrah claimed eight wickets, guiding the tourists to a commanding 295-run victory in the first match at Perth Stadium. He is expected to be even more formidable with the pink ball in the day-night Test commencing at Adelaide Oval on Friday.
Head, who scored 89 in Australia's second innings before being dismissed by Bumrah, mentioned that the batting team is developing various strategies to counter the quick bowler. "They are not seeking batting advice from me, that's for sure," he told reporters in Adelaide on Monday. "Everyone approaches it differently... We're all supporting each other." Head believes that Bumrah will be remembered as one of the greatest fast bowlers to have played the game. "I think we're realizing now how challenging he can be, and it's enjoyable to play against that," he said. "It will be nice to reflect on your career and tell your grandchildren that you faced him, so it's not a bad series to be playing in with him."
Head also dismissed rumors of a rift between the Australian batters and bowlers, sparked by comments made by paceman Josh Hazlewood as the team faced defeat in Perth. When asked how Australia could improve against India, Hazlewood replied: "You probably have to ask one of the batters that question." Head clarified that there was no division within the team.
"This team has been together for three to four years... the guys get along really well," he said. "We hold high expectations for both sides and it's a very individualised sport. The batters want to hold their own. We know how good our bowlers have been for us in the past, and they've gotten us out of trouble a lot."
