Avowed, the highly anticipated RPG from the creators of Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds, Obsidian Entertainment, is set to launch on Battle.net. Interestingly, players have the option to purchase the game using World of Warcraft's in-game currency, gold. According to PC Gamer, the current exchange rate suggests that around 1.4 million gold is required to buy the $70 edition of Avowed on Battle.net.
IGN detailed the intricate process behind this transaction, which essentially involves converting WoW Tokens into Battle.net balance credits. WoW Tokens, priced at $20 each, can be sold in WoW's in-game auction house for gold. This gold can then be exchanged for $15 worth of Battle.net balance after accounting for Blizzard's $5 fee. With this balance, players can purchase any item from the Battle.net store, including Avowed when it releases in February 2025. As of November 15, one WoW Token is equivalent to 269,433 gold, meaning approximately five WoW Tokens are needed to acquire the base version of Avowed, totaling around 1.4 million gold.
While this method of purchasing Avowed is somewhat convoluted, it is theoretically possible. The decision to launch Avowed on Battle.net may have surprised some, but it makes sense given Microsoft's ownership of Battle.net through its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Both the $70 standard edition and the $90 digital premium edition (which includes five-day early access) will be available on Battle.net. Alternatively, Avowed will also be accessible to Xbox Game Pass for Ultimate subscribers.
Originally slated for a 2024 release, Avowed's launch was delayed to 2025. This delay was not due to quality issues but was instead a strategic scheduling decision to better align with Game Pass.
