The modding community for Baldur's Gate 3 is substantial, and with Larian officially supporting mods, the game has attracted more players than ever. However, the question arises: how many mods is too many for a single game? Larian recently reviewed the statistics and found that players with over 100 mods are not uncommon. This, however, presents a challenge for gameplay, prompting the studio to take action for console players.

Larian has announced a 100-mod limit for console players to maintain gameplay stability and prevent potential issues. In their statement, the studio explained the rationale behind this decision and provided guidance for those who have exceeded the limit. "Unlike PC, consoles have a limited capacity to manage multiple files simultaneously. The more mods installed, the sooner this limit is reached. Players attempting to use more than 100 mods have reported experiencing slower loading times and game crashes," the statement detailed. "To enhance stability, we are implementing a 100-mod limit for console platforms. This adjustment is part of today's console-only hotfix, and players with more than 100 mods installed may encounter specific messages when they next load their game."

The statement further clarified that players with over 100 mods will temporarily be unable to play on consoles, but cross-saves between PC and console should remain unaffected. Players may need to disable some mods on their PC to access cross-saves. Larian also mentioned that an upcoming update will provide a solution to access these saves.

"We will release another fix shortly to enable access to console saves that are currently disabled due to today's update," Larian stated. "It's important to remember that mods can introduce instability, especially on consoles. Depending on the mods enabled in a save, disabling certain mods may lead to issues."
