Bangladesh has named Mohammed Rashedujjaman as the new consul-general for Dubai and the Northern Emirates, succeeding BM Jamal Hossain. Rashedujjaman officially presented his 'Letter of Commission' to Rashid Abdulla Al Qaseer, the deputy director of the Dubai Office at the UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

The newly appointed consul-general expressed gratitude to the UAE government for accommodating a significant number of Bangladeshi expatriates, who are making substantial contributions to both the Bangladeshi and UAE economies. He requested the support and collaboration of the MoFA to ensure the welfare of Bangladeshi expatriates in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. Additionally, he outlined his plans to explore fresh avenues in trade, business, and investment between the two nations.

Bangladeshis constitute one of the largest groups of foreign workers in the UAE. Many have taken advantage of the recent two-month amnesty scheme introduced by the UAE. These expatriates also play a crucial role as a major source of remittances for Bangladesh. Rashedujjaman and Al Qaseer both expressed optimism that their respective offices would collaborate closely on all matters of mutual interest.

In a bid to assist their fellow citizens, the consulate established a help desk at the Al Awir immigration center last month, specifically for Bangladeshi nationals seeking amnesty.
