"The president has dissolved parliament," stated Shiplu Zaman, the press secretary of President Mohammed Shahabuddin, in an official statement. This decision was made just hours after the protesting student leaders imposed a deadline for the dissolution of parliament and threatened to initiate a "strict programme" if their demands were not met.
