Bangladesh's fast bowler Shoriful Islam will not participate in the upcoming two-test series in India due to a groin injury sustained during the Pakistan tour, according to the country's cricket board. The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced this on Thursday.
Bangladesh is currently riding high after securing victories in both tests against Pakistan, marking their first Test series win against their Asian rivals. Shoriful, aged 23, took three wickets in the first Test in Rawalpindi but was sidelined for the second match due to the injury.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board stated, "Left-arm paceman Shoriful Islam is still recovering from a groin injury and was unavailable for the series." The board has named a 16-member squad for the India tour, with uncapped Jaker Ali Anik included as the second wicketkeeper, despite Litton Das, who scored a match-winning century in the second Test against Pakistan, expected to continue as the primary keeper.
The first Test in Chennai is set to commence on September 19, followed by the second match in Kanpur from September 27. India leads the World Test Championship standings and ranks second in the ICC's official test rankings, seven places ahead of Bangladesh. Following the series against Bangladesh, India will host New Zealand for three matches before embarking on a five-Test series in Australia.
Bangladesh Test squad: Najmul Hossain Shanto (captain), Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Zakir Hasan, Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Nayeem Hasan, Nahid Rana, Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Jaker Ali Anik.
