Barbara Corcoran, known for her role in "Shark Tank," recently shared insights into her unique sleeping arrangement with her husband, Bill Higgins. The 75-year-old businesswoman revealed that they sleep in separate bedrooms, a decision that she believes enhances their relationship.
In a preview of "The Jamie Kern Lima Show," obtained by People, Corcoran explained that maintaining her own private space is crucial for her well-being. "I lead a very busy life. I have a huge family that I’m always entertaining. I have very sincere, active friends and so what I need more than anything else is a respite, and my husband is not relaxing," she said.
Corcoran and Higgins have been married for nearly 37 years, tying the knot on Valentine’s Day in 1988. She shared that her husband has many ideas and she often lacks the energy to engage in deep conversations at the end of the day. "Better I go to my room, and I have an hour to myself," she admitted.
The couple has established clear boundaries regarding their personal spaces. "If I go to the living room, my husband follows me. I go to my bedroom, he doesn’t dare come in. I have to invite him into my bedroom and I like it that way," Corcoran explained. "He’s never invited me back ’cause he knows I’ll never come into his bedroom, but I have to invite him into my bedroom."
While Corcoran joked that separate bedrooms make sex a "short thing," she emphasized that they still enjoy special nights together, often involving a game of Scrabble. "My idea of a special night with my husband is a good game of Scrabble. He’ll often say to me S or S, and I’ll say ‘Scrabble’ ’cause the first S means sex, and I say, ‘No, Scrabble,’ and I love beating him at Scrabble, and he loves beating me at Scrabble, and that’s a great night," she shared.
This isn’t the first time Corcoran has discussed the benefits of having her own room. In March, she mentioned that not sharing space with her husband keeps their intimacy "fun." "I’ve had a separate bedroom with Bill for like 40 years," she explained. "I have to invite him in — he invites me in occasionally."
Corcoran also noted that the arrangement helps her sleep better, as she is very neat while her husband tends to leave piles of stuff everywhere. "Now I sleep like a baby," she stated.
Reflecting on her marriage advice, Corcoran echoed the wisdom shared by Jen Garner’s mother. "You really have to take your partner as they are and not hope through the marriage they’re going to change. Because they never do. You have to be satisfied! What you see is what you get," she told Hello! in March.
