Situated in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Betawi Restaurant provides a culinary journey to the dynamic city of Jakarta, Indonesia. Named after the historic Batavia, Betawi is celebrated for its genuine tastes, traditional recipes, and a dining environment that evokes the warmth of a home-cooked meal. The menu at Betawi is a delightful exploration of Indonesian culinary delights, and my recent dining experience allowed me to savor some of their most notable dishes.
The Tempe Mendoan, a dish made from fermented soybeans, offered a mild, savory taste with a nutty and earthy profile. Its perfect texture made it an excellent choice for a starter. The Bebek Kremes, featuring fried duck with a crispy skin and sambal terasi, was the standout dish of my meal. The sambal, a spicy chili blend with tomato and ebi, complemented the tender duck perfectly. I've been longing for this dish ever since my visit.
For a vegetarian option, the Cap Cai was a simple yet flavorful mix of vegetables, light and refreshing. Beef Rendang, one of my all-time favorites, was exceptional at Betawi. This Indonesian beef stew boasts tender pieces of beef in a rich, paste-like sauce that is slightly spicy and intensely flavorful. It's a must-try dish.
Although I typically skip dessert, the chef recommended the Es Campur, an Indonesian cold dessert with a mix of fruit cocktails, coconut, tapioca pearls, grass jellies, and more, served with shaved ice, syrup, and condensed milk. Surprisingly, I enjoyed every bit of it. The ambiance at Betawi is relaxed and authentic, adorned with traditional Indonesian themes that transport you to Jakarta. The staff was warm and friendly, enhancing the homely atmosphere of the restaurant.
Betawi Restaurant is a hidden gem in JLT, offering the finest of Indonesian street food in a cozy, welcoming setting. The authentic flavors and friendly service make it a must-visit for anyone seeking a taste of Indonesia. Each dish is freshly prepared by local Indonesian chefs using carefully selected ingredients, including authentic imported herbs, spices, and sauces. In addition to its standout offerings, Betawi impresses with a robust selection of vegetarian dishes on the menu, showcasing the rich diversity of Indonesian cuisine.
