Superstar singer Beyoncé is set to join Democratic US presidential candidate Kamala Harris at a rally in Houston on Friday, according to two sources who spoke with Reuters. Harris is making an appearance in Texas, a traditionally Republican state, to support Democratic Senate candidate Colin Allred, who is currently trailing Republican Ted Cruz in the polls. The focus of her visit will also include discussions on abortion rights.

Beyoncé, who hails from Houston, is expected to perform at the event, according to one source, and will be accompanied by her mother, Tina Knowles. Harris has chosen Beyoncé's song 'Freedom' as her campaign rally anthem and used it during her appearance at the national Convention in Chicago in August. Beyoncé has reportedly granted Harris permission to use the song. In the past, Beyoncé has shown support for Democratic candidates, including President Joe Biden during the last election.

The specific venue for the rally has not been disclosed. Texas made headlines in September 2021 with a groundbreaking law that prohibited abortion after six weeks and allowed anyone to sue those who sought or assisted in abortions. The US Supreme Court, with its conservative majority established by Trump's judicial appointments, upheld the law and later in June 2022, overturned Roe v. Wade, effectively dismantling federal abortion rights.
