Big Nick is back! Yes, everyone's favorite morally ambiguous, day-drinking LA County Sheriff's Department detective is back in action, ready for more high-stakes crime drama in Christian Gudegast's heist movie sequel, Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera. While the first film was a gritty homage to Heat, with Gerard Butler as the Al Pacino to Pablo Schreiber's Robert De Niro, this time around, it seems Nick O'Brien has his sights set on a piece of O'Shea Jackson Jr.'s World Diamond Centre heist.
The new trailer, clocking in at nearly three minutes, offers a lot to unpack. But let's be honest, we're here for Gerry B taking names and kicking ass alongside Jackson Jr.'s Donnie, the mastermind behind the first movie's Federal Reserve bank job. And from the looks of it, we won't be disappointed. The trailer shows a more rugged Butler breaking into Donnie's home, delivering lines like "You're not a killer, I am," and cracking jokes while sporting some seriously slick aviator shades.
At its core, the film promises a high-octane heist with car chases, helicopter chases, and the hint of some double-crosses. As Donnie succinctly puts it, the film's twist is simple yet effective: "and the cop goes gangster." Supporting roles this time around include Meadow Williams, Jordan Bridges, Evin Ahmad, Swen Temmel, Bob Jennings, Salvatore Esposito, and UFC fighter Michael Bisping.
With a third installment already on the horizon and Gerard Butler clearly enjoying himself as Big Nick, Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera could be another hidden gem for genre enthusiasts and Gerry B fans alike. We'll find out if Big Nick has truly gone rogue or if he's orchestrating the ultimate inside job when the film hits theaters on January 10, 2025.
