BioWare's studio, known for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, has now seemingly 'shifted entirely' to the next installment in the Mass Effect series. Consequently, the studio appears to have no plans for downloadable expansions for The Veilguard. BioWare confirmed these details in an interview with Rolling Stone, although there were no direct quotes from the team to support this claim or provide additional information.
For comparison, Dragon Age: Inquisition saw the release of eight expansion packs post-launch, distributed between single-player and multiplayer content. According to a previous Bloomberg report, developers working on the next Mass Effect were reassigned to assist with the completion of The Veilguard. Additionally, staff from Iron Man studio Motive were also redirected to The Veilguard to help finalize the game for its release.
BioWare creative director John Epler did not divulge any new information about the next Mass Effect in the interview, but he did discuss the possibility of BioWare revisiting multiplayer. The Veilguard was initially designed as a live-service game before being rebooted as a single-player experience. The future of the next Mass Effect remains uncertain, but Epler expressed his appreciation for the 'focus that single-player can give you.'
'It's possible to tell a strong story in a multiplayer game. Final Fantasy XIV does an excellent job,' he said. 'Multiplayer also introduces some complications around world states. I make a giant choice in my world, and the world changes.'
The Veilguard launched on October 31 and achieved the best-ever debut for a BioWare game on Steam, with over 89,000 peak concurrent users. GameSpot's Dragon Age: The Veilguard review in progress awarded the game a 7/10. For those just starting the game, GameSpot's The Veilguard guides hub is a valuable resource.
As for the Mass Effect series, BioWare is currently developing the next entry in the spacefaring saga. The timing for more information about the game remains uncertain, but some anticipate news could be revealed as soon as this week. This is due to the upcoming Mass Effect holiday—N7 Day—which takes place this Thursday, November 7. Stay tuned to GameSpot for the latest updates.
